The protype aims at informing a a range of different decisions that need to be considered as part of the monitoring and response activities:
Raise awareness of an impending crisis.
Advocate for initiating an early response within the Disaster Risk Management Technical Working Group.
Identify and prioritize areas and sectors that require closer monitoring throughout the rest of the season.
Implement sector-specific “low-regrets” interventions, including advance purchase and prepositioning of food.

LEAP is the Government of Ethiopia’s national food security early warning system. It provides estimates of the number of people who will be in need of food assistance due to drought, increasing the speed with which a humanitarian response can be triggered.
